WELCOME TO WEEK 2!
#1 INTRODUCTION
Why is crying important? What purpose does it have?
#2 HOW TO BE WITH YOUR UPSET CHILD
It seems like it's an obvious thing to do, but in this video I go through how to be with our child when they are full of upset feelings
#2a ROLE PLAY - BEING WITH YOUR UPSET CHILD
How a pillow fight can turn into an opportunity to listen to crying.
Showing you how to listen to an upset child.
#3 WHEN YOUR CHILD IS PHYSICALLY HURT
How to best help your child become more physically confident, resilient and 'brave' when they have hurt themselves.
#3a - ROLE PLAY - LISTENING TO HURTS
Role play showing what's helpful and what things it would ideal to avoid
#4 - CONTROL PATTERNS
What are these things?!
Control Patterns is an Aware Parenting term that refers to things we do and use to stop ourselves from fully feeling our emotions and crying.
In this video I go through what they are, how they manifest in children and adults, why they aren't helpful overall, and how we can help our children to stop using them.
#5 - LISTENING TO A CRYING TODDLER
Showing you a real-life cry! This is with my toddler, George, who was 19 months at the time and you'll see how he cries and how he is afterwards.
Even if your child is older, this gives you a great idea of how vigorous and physical the cries can be, and an insight into how best support our children when they are really upset.
The whole cry lasted about 35-40 mins, but I have condensed it into about 6 mins (plus a video intro).
#6 PARENT BUDDIES / LISTENING PARTNERSHIPS
How to get amazing support for yourself - to have someone to listen to YOUR hurts and upsets.
THIS is what differentiates Parenting by Connection / Aware Parenting from many other programs. We can't give what we don't receive, so it's vital for us to receive support, to offload our stress, so that we can be more present, calm and connected with our kids.
#6a - LISTENING PARTNERSHIPS IN ACTION
Gemma and I show you a Listening Partnership in action - 5 minutes each way.
We also show you things to avoid doing and saying in an LP.
We recorded this whilst on our kids' school camp, so it is a little windy. But you can still hear us OK!
For suggestions on what to say when you're the listener in the Listening Partnership - View the info sheet below.
NURTURING OURSELVES
This week we look at what's going on for us when we hear our child cries. We look at what it was like for us when we were little and crying, and how are are now when we are upset.
Open or download the worksheet and then play the video so that we can go through the questions together.
I really invite you to reach out and gain a Parent Buddy. Honestly - this will help sooooo much! Your Listening Partnership with them is the perfect place to talk more about the feelings that come up during this exercise and everyday life so that you can deal much more easily with those inevitable challenging times.
Try it just for the duration of the course and see how you go.....!
